Black Sheep Brewery Races 2009

The races

During April to September, eight separate races are held in towns and villages of North Yorkshire. They are called the "Black Sheep Brewery Races". In 2009, the races will take place on the following dates:

Sun Apr 26th Fountains 10K
Sun May 10th Ripon 10M
Sun May 24th Melmerby 10K
Sat Jun 6th Kirkby Malzeard 10K
Sun Jun 28th Rainton 10K
Sun Jul 5th Burn Valley Run (half marathon)
Sun Jul 19th Burton Leonard 10K
Sun Sep 13th Wetherby 10K
As shown above, in 2009 the Burn Valley Run will be held on a Sunday rather than on a Saturday (which has been the case for previous years). Apart from the Burn Valley Run, these days are the same as those used in 2008 (except they are one year later!).

You will be able to enter one or more of these races by getting an entry form (from the organisers of the race) and sending it off in the usual way. In previous years, some of the races insisted that you enter by post, i.e., entry on the day was not allowed.

All of the entry forms are available from the Ripon Runners web site. And, after each race, that web site will probably have a link to a web page containing the results.

A separate competition

If you are thinking of entering at least six of these races, you may also want to enter a separate competition called the "Black Sheep Race Series" (BSRS). Official information about the BSRS is at www.blacksheepraceseries.co.uk

Entry into the BSRS is 10 pounds. An entry form is already available. Here is a link to the entry form for the BSRS.

"To be eligible for a Race Series Medal you must complete 4 of the 6 10k races plus both the 10 mile and 1/2 marathon."

"All runners who complete all 8 races will be awarded a Big 8 t-shirt in Mens/Womens sizes."

Other information including details of the prizes is given at: www.blacksheepraceseries.co.uk

Just to repeat what is said above: if you choose to enter the BSRS (paying the 10 pounds), you will also, separately, have to enter each race and pay the fee for each race. The closing date for entry into each race will be whatever is given on the race's entry form. In previous years, some of the races insisted that you enter by post, i.e., entry on the day was not allowed.
